Top 5 tips for a wilder garden!

Our first open day of the year!
Sunday 27th April from 12pm to 4pm
As our main goal is preservation and wild life sanctuary, we are only allowed to open our gates to the public 4 times a year. So we are very excited when we finally get to do just that. This coming Sunday will be our first open day for the year! We would love to have you visit! This will be an opportunity for you to enjoy the nature reserve in Springtime and see all the work undertaken to support wildlife.
There will be music, and face painting, talks and cake!

* Unfortunately we can't allow dogs on the site as we are a safe release site for rescued and rehabilitating wildlife (except for assistance dogs). Please also note that toilet facilities are not available.
The Fourth Reserve Foundation manage the Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve & campaign to protect and preserve the Forest Hill to New Cross Railway Cutting. We are also involved in other local community projects to bring nature into urban spaces.
The Buckthorne Cutting Nature Reserve is a wildlife sanctuary and nature refuge in the heart of South East London. It was founded by and looked after by the Fourth Reserve Foundation.
Located between Crofton Park SE4 and Honor Oak Park SE23, Buckthorne Cutting is used as a resource by schools and local community groups for nature themed purposes. It is also open to the public on open days, volunteer workdays and events.
Who we are
This Month at the reserve...

Spring is definitely in full swing. The meadow grass is growing, we have frogspawn, newts and the birds are incredibly busy building nests and laying eggs. We already have several rescued birds chirping in the soft aviary waiting to be released
Over the Winter period, the mid-week cuckoos (Our volunteer group) have worked hard doing path work, hedgerow maintenance, log pile habitats and bramble clearing.
We have made an 'acorn house' made entirely out of found materials that will house oak saplings grown from acorns selected at Buckthorne.
